Why are we called White Shoe Law?

Historically, a “white shoe law firm” referred to elite boutique professional services firms known for quality, excellence and intimacy. The term originated with the white buck shoes once worn by Ivy League students in the 1930s through 1950s, which became the symbol of best-in-class excellence and professional mastery.

Many believe that the white nubuck is also the fashion foundation for the white sneaker - the uniform of modern entrepreneurs, founders, and operators. Functional, mobile, and intentional, it reflects movement, growth, and momentum. It also stems from a tradition rooted in excellence.

We also love the iconography of shoes and see great symbolism and connection between shoes and what we do. They are functional and fashionable, protective but expressive. Moreover, they are diverse and reflect the people who wear them, their stories, and their circumstances.

We see ourselves as the shoe that gets you from A to Z, while protecting you along the way.
